5 Steps to Personal Growth

We're weeks away from the new year, do you have your New Year's Resolution? If not, how about making a resolution....better yet a promise to yourself to grow and develop personally.

Trust me, it's not as hard as it seems. Really! It's simple.

The ONLY drawback to this is how bad do you really want it. Now some people say, of course I want it. I want to develop and grow personally so I can increase my wealth, health, and mental state but are you really up for the challenge?

Anything you want in life, you will have to work for it. There's no such thing as it falling in your lap. I mean, I guess if you won the lottery then that's kinda a fall in your lap type of thing but even then you have to continuously play it before you win.

I guess what I'm trying to tell you is CONSISTENCY is going to be the key to being successful with achieving this.

What is a personal mission statement you ask? I can answer that. A personal mission statement is similar to a goal statement.

For example my personal mission statement is to continue growing and developing by getting out of my comfort zone. I allow myself to be uncomfortable to achieve the things I want for my life. I really like the act of putting it on paper to see what you want to do in general to continue to grow.

Now planning your strategy is just as simple but many find this part difficult. The planning can be difficult if you don't know where to start. I help my clients with this all the time but if you don't need my help and simple need my advice, I suggest you research.

Yes, research information like in high school or college when you had a project due. I want you to give this 110% of your effort because this is the MOST CRUCIAL part in personal growth. It's like driving to an unknown destination without a map or GPS.

Who does that? We do? We expect to get some where without a plan. SMH! How silly are we?!

It's EXTREMELY important to find someone or join an accountability group to hold you accountable for reaching your goals. If we are successful enough to make a written plan, who's going to hold us to it?

I sometimes miss being a child and being scared to bring any bad reports to my mother and it pushed me to do the things I didn't want to do.

Please explain to me why now that I'm grown, I cant get it together? What's wrong with me? I had to get over the thought pattern that someone is going to make me do it and had to learn to do it for myself.

I was the one that had to make me do it. This is what determines if you really want it. For you to be successful, you have to truly want it.

Like, it's nothing you wouldn't do to have the life you want. With that mindset and believing you can, there's no doubt that you can manifest the life you want.

A great tool to aid you with your personal growth is to find a mentor. Now this doesn't have to be Beyonce (though I would give her my unborn child to know the secret to her success...LOL....I'm totally joking ...or am I?). Having a mentor is like having an older sibling that has been successful that you can talk to, ask questions, or just vent about life.

This is someone that has been through the struggle you're in and can give you tips and strategies to overcome some of those possible setbacks.

By having a mentor, you're setting yourself up for success in life and personal development and growth.

Lastly, there's no end to personal growth. This isn't a goal you set, achieve, and never look at again. Personal growth is continuous. We never stop learning and growing.

Well, maybe it's better if I use the term we "should" never stop growing and learning. Don't you just hate those "know-it-alls" that think they have the answer for EVERYTHING?!

Excuse me, who determined you to be the alpha and the omega. Last I checked we were all human. We can learn something from everyone no matter how big or small they are in their life, career, or social status.

I learned as much from my previous clients with developmental disabilities as I did from the CEO of the company I work for at the time. You should always seek a lesson in each situation. That is growth!!!

Once you accept that you'll NEVER know everything and there's always something and someone to learn from, you have completed half the battle without even leaving your house.

See...I told you it was simple!

The take home message from all of this is YOU
